This Hans Cristian 33' Cutter is located here in Mystic, CT.. Current owner has owned since 1985.
Lovingly hand crafted by the finest skilled craftsman in the renowned Hansa yard in Taiwan and using only the finest materials in their construction, Hans Christians have proven their reputation with each hull as one of the finest pedigreed blue water cruisers on the high seas. The design goals of Harwood Ives were met in the ability to go to weather as well as track downwind. There is high initial stability for comfort under sail and a kindly motion at sea. Lateral plane and ballast displacement ratios are high, so sailing with the rail down is extremely rare.
Below decks, she is a home at sea, with the feel and features of a much larger sailing yacht and extremely well designed use of the interior space. Her 6'3" headroom , 10 opening bronze ports, 6 dorade vents, two overhead hatches and rich teak appointments provide a living space designed for comfort. As a liveaboard, a recreational cruiser or for extended passage making, her interior accommodations are well suited to the task. "Shearwater" is a well equipped, well thought out blue water cruiser that will hold her value as an investment and take you in safety and comfort anywhere in the world you wish. If this is the kind of vessel you are looking for, this is one solid little ship that certainly deserves your personal inspection. All you need to do is point her bow toward the horizon!

Hull & Deck
The Hans Christian 33T is one of the sturdiest ocean going vessels ever built. She is actually 41' in overall length. Her one piece hull is hand laid with 24 layers of mat and roving. The deck and hull are fastened and bonded twice, once under the raised bulwarks and again under the teak cap rail.
Instead of screwing the decks down from above, Hansa screwed them from underneath, eliminating the thousands of screw bungs in the deck that have a reputation for causing wet decks. Stanchion bases and cleats are mounted on the bulwarks, while winches and grab rail bases are raised to prevent standing water from working it's way below them to the deck core below. One side benefit of this design is nice, wide open decks that are kindly to bare feet! The ballast is fully encapsulated. Her keel has a cutaway forefoot and an aperture in the keel protecting the prop.

- Forward is a chain locker, accessed from behind the head. There is a teak seat that folds down over the head when it is not in use, allowing you to use it as a dressing seat when the head is not in use. To port of the head is a linen locker, while continuing aft to starboard is the marble countertop with a sink and medicine cabinet behind it and storage below it. Across to port is a walk in shower, with a teak seat and towel bar, a tiled surround below the seat and a teak grate over the GRP shower pan.
- Continuing aft you enter the master stateroom. To starboard there is a very spacious double doored locker, split with hanging storage aft and shelves forward. A shelf and port light are above this, while across to port is the master berth. A gracious curved entry makes this space quite inviting and warm, while below it you find six drawers and two louvered doors for storage. Additional storage in large dry bins complete the balance of the space below the berth. A shelf lines the foot of the bed and two opening ports and a dorade vent provide ventilation to the cabin. This area can be closed off by a bi-fold door from the saloon if you wish.
