SCOOT - is the latest in an evolution of performance day sailing concepts from Nelson Marek Yacht Design. An experienced yacht owner from Nantucket spent years cruising on sail and power yachts before commissioning this purpose built sailing machine. Built at world renowned New England Boat Works the design parameters are based on ease of handling, speed and maximum fun with the lines of an eye catching, modern concept.

Only two Harken hydraulic winches on a 55 foot performance boat appears too clean on deck to be true but tacking and gybing is easy with a dual wheel system and push-button sail controls. After an exciting day of sailing this rocket will slide easily back into the shallow waters inside any breakwater with the aid of a push button lifting keel. Comfort for the crew was as paramount as performance so prepare for all to relax as you indulge in a perfect day on the water!

Manufacturer's Comments

For this custom project, NEB teamed up with the San Diego design firm, Nelson/Marek Yacht Design. For more than 20 years this office has developed extraordinary design of all types, including Americas Cup, measurement rule ocean racers and performance cruisers.

The ACK 55 (radio call letters for the Nantucket airport) is the latest in an evolution of performance day sailing concepts from NMYD. An experienced yacht owner from Nantucket, USA spent years cruising on sail and power yachts before commissioning this purpose built sailing machine. Design parameters are based on ease of handling, speed and maximum fun with the lines of an eye catching, modern concept.

Harken USA developed a user friendly hydraulic sail control system (Hydro 2.2) developed for short handed sailing. Only two winches on a 55 foot performance boat appears too clean on deck to be true but tacking and gybing is easy with a dual wheel system and push-button sail controls. Hall Spars did there part to keep the system simple with a swept spreader carbon rig together with a Forespar hydraulic boom furling main and under deck jib furler from Harken. Nelson Marek designed the modern concept jib-club boom, built by NEB with integral hydraulic controls again led back to a push button on either of the dual helm pods. Under deck main & jib sheeting enhances the clean look from bow to stern. After an exciting day on Nantucket sound this rocket will slide easily back in to the shallow waters inside the breakwater with the aid of a push button lifting keel.

ACK 55 Performance Sailing

A blend of modern concepts that will change your mind about what sailing is all about! Custom pre-preg carbon construction coupled with design features influenced by Nelson-Marek Yacht Designs previous experience with TP52 and 1D35 designs plus recent America’s Cup design research results.

This space age speedster is turning heads on the water in the US Northeast and around the world by all who have heard the word. The owner of Hull #1 says, “This boat constantly draws attention and positive comments from everyone who sees her on the water.”

The build team at New England Boatworks has been involved in a wide range of projects for 20 plus years but all agreed this boat is all about fresh ideas based on an outside the box approach to performance sailing.

Hydraulic sail handling and keel lift systems are designed and set up for ease of operation by one or two people. The open plan cockpit incorporates ergonomically correct and comfortable seating for a crew of family and friends. Twin wheels with dual push button controls are conveniently laid out for maximum safety and comfort underway. With a boom furling main and self tacking jib on a custom carbon club boom, sailing upwind or downwind in a wide range of conditions is easier than you ever imagined on this 55 footer!
