Ray hunt was a respected helmsman who won the Sears Cup twice, the first time when he was only 15. He sailed R-boats, Q-boats, 8-meters, and was a member of the afterguard on the J-boat "Yankee". His apparent, uncanny knowledge of how to move a boat through the water forms a skill no tank test or formula can replicate.
He became one of the most innovative designers of his era and he developed radically new designs which continue today to influence both yacht and vessel design.
Sharp entry forward keeps pounding to a minimum
No deep forefoot to cause bow steering and/or broaching
V-shape is carried all the way to the transom, which results in a stable platform
Design factors make the hull travel straight over seas with moderate steering effort
Handling characteristics are a major safety advantage when running down waves or entering rough inlets
Eastbay Series hull form:
A high chine forward and spray strips knock down spray, adds lift & reduces wetted surface
Dry boat, reduced resistance, greater speed & increased economy
A widely flared forward topsides creates buoyancy and reduces the potential for burying the bow
At planing speeds hull gains stability and minimizes rolling
High deadrise V-shape is inherently more stable
The v shape allows the gull to bank in a turn, not roll outward like a round or flat bottomed hull
At displacement speeds the deep V hull has more draft than the typical planing hull, so it behaves more like a displacement hull
