World-Class!!

"Screech" is a rugged, extremely well-built, world-class blue water passage-maker, true to her heritage in every way. She's a no-nonsense vessel, over-built everywhere she needs to be. Her deck and hull are solid fiberglass with no coring. The deck has teak planking which is layed on and does not communicate with the interior. The hull design, was Boat Of The Year at the London Boat Show, and did extremely well in offshore racing under the CCA Rule, including the infamous Fastnet. Holman & Pye, custom designed Screech to perform well to weather, and all points of sail, so that she would become the fast passage-maker she proved out to be. After designing Screech, (not so named in her beginnings) they went on to be the navel architects who would be the principal designers at Oyster Yachts.

Original price $99,500.

All serious offers considered, suggest try $55,000.

Layout

After entry to Pilot House through companionway on deck, the pilot house offers lovely teak & holly sole, With a couple of folding deck chairs, seating for 7 or 8 while on the hook or ashore is easily accomplished. In colder weather, the Propane fireplace/heater will keep the entire below decks living space toasty.
The dinette will convert to a double.
Going forward and down a step you pass through the galley on the stbd side, head on the port side, and enter into the spacious forward double cabin.
Going aft from the PH down a step the aft head is to stbd, storage to port, and enter the large double aft cabin. "Screech" is primarily laid out for two couples to cruise the world in comfort, but a family arrangement for six is possible using the convertible dinette.

  • New SS bows were installed for complete aft cockpit cover, but canvass has not been purchased.

Sails and Rigging

A strong cutter rig for serious "blue water" sailing is how best "Screech is identified".
She's cruised from Maine to Florida, as far north as Newfoundland, Labrador with it's current owners. Previous owners sailed her from Austrailia to Northern Europe, the Med, Caribbean, and up the east coast.
The main boom does not sweep the cockpit.
Loose footed, bull battened main with three reef points, led aft.
Spare Main.
Roller furling genoa (140%), spare genoa (100%), staysail, multi range (SRS) light air genoa & storm jib. All sails are in very good condition. Storm sail is virtually unused.
  • The mast is a deck-stepped Seldon spar.
  • Vang.
  • (2) spinnaker poles, used as down-wind whisker poles.
  • Staysail can be sailed with or without boom, as desired.
  • All standing rigging (except mast) were replaced new in 2000, in anticipation of Atlantic crossing. One lower was replaced in 2011 due to damage from stepping the mast in Newfoundland in the fall of 2010.
  • Chain plates caulking removed and replaced annually.
  • Running back-stays for "Inner-forstay" increased support to prevent "Pumping" in heavy seas.
  • 5/8 Main halyard; 9/16" spare.
  • 5/8" Genoa halyard; 9/16" spare.
  • 5/8" spinnaker halyard; 9/16" spare.
  • All sails were serviced by Doyle Loft in Annapolis, Md in the winter of 2007/2008. The full battened main and regular cut main were converted to be able to use the strong track mainsail track installed by Doyle at the same time.
