      The galley, aft of the companionway, has a convection microwave oven and a large refrigerator and separate freezer. The navigation station is to port of the salon.
      Electronics / Navigation

      In terms of safety and navigation equipment, ‘THOR’ is fully equipped. She has a VHF radio with cockpit repeater, two GPS computer/electronic chart navigation system units, radar, loudhailer and wind instruments. There is an integrated instrument system, and an autopilot. The hull construction is solid FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic), with Kevlar added in the bow area and an external lead keel. There are large full-length stringers, and thick bulkheads. There are two separate watertight compartments forward and she has a superior range of stability. Safety equipment is aboard including life raft, inflatable life vests, man over-board recovery gear.

      ‘THOR’ has a “raised deck salon”. This means that the salon is higher than on most boats, and is very light and airy inside with seven very large windows.

      Sails and Rigging

      THOR’ was built in 1996 by Oyster Marine in Ipswich, England. She is 55’ long, has a 15’9” beam, draws 6’8”, and has a displacement of 50,000 pounds. She has a center cockpit and is cutter rigged. This means she has one mast (71’ tall), and two foresails. She is designed for shorthanded sailing with all lines leading to the cockpit. The primary winches are powered, as well as the mainsheet winch. All sails are roller furling, with the main powered into the mast and fore stay powered by ‘Harken’ roller furling. There is also a cruising chute and spinnaker pole
