It’s that mid-season time of year to go over your boat or yacht after having many wonderful days out motoring or sailing about!
The pleasure you have gotten out of your boat should continue with no major issues on your list. It is a good time of year to go over a few things to keep everything working well. Clean out cabinets and storage areas of unwanted accumulations, debris, and of course any mold or mildew. Freshening up these areas gives you an insight into any changes to the boat or yachts’ integrity. Mold or mildew could be caused by moisture coming in through stanchions, cleats or seams not properly caulked, and has some splits in it causing infiltration water or moisture. These splits can be caused by movements in the hull from high speed or stress in a particular area. Go over your thru-hull fittings and hose/clamps. Don’t just look, take a screwdriver and see if it’s loose, or even worse, it is stripped and you can take your screwdriver and keep turning with nothing tightening! Change that hose clamp and check the rest! It’s mid season so this is a great time to go over your boat or yacht.
For great maintenance, wash and wax your hull and deck to keep the sun’s rays from deteriorating your gelcoat shine. By waxing now, it will give that protective coat for the winter also. Add protective coatings and enhancements to the outside upholstery on deck…keep that value in your boat for years to come.
Another area to look over is your engine. This is a big part of your boats’ or yachts’ value and keeping it in top shape is certainly the right thing to do. Check for paint lifting off the engine, a sign of a hot spot or corrosion. Check any wet spots from loose hose clamps or your water pump housings. Check for films of oil on the valve cover or other areas, possibly from a loose gasket or a sign your engine is running hot, thinning the oil so now it can push its’ way out in other areas…Or you just have the wrong type oil or grade for your boat or yacht engine.
This is also a great time of year to change your oil and get the viscosity and protection back to its’ fullest! It’s the right thing to do, and definitely great for your propulsion section of your boat or yacht.
Keep your Value in your vessel by keeping it at High Standards… You can’t miss!
