Riverside Marine Inc. is family owned and operated. It was started in 1976 by Robert Baumgartner, Sr. when he purchased an existing marina on Back River in Essex, MD. The marina was in need of much work and was not in the boat retail business. It was started with the goal in mind to create a local dealership that would provide quality products, outstanding customer service and a good work atmosphere for its employees, that would bring continuous repeat business.

During the period of 1976 thru 1991 the business grew through the quality selection of the proper boat lines to serve the needs of Riverside customers on the Chesapeake Bay. Riverside Marine has received numerous dealership and customer service awards, and in 1988, was voted "Dealer of the Year" in Boat & Motor Dealer magazine.

In 1991 the family decided to expand the business. Riverside Marine teamed up with America's largest builder of recreational boats. Within 2 years three additional locations were opened, and we became the exclusive dealer for Bayliner boats in Maryland and Washington, DC.

Since 1991 Riverside has been the largest dealer on the East Coast for Bayliner, and their third largest dealer in the world. In sales and service, we have received many awards from Bayliner, Mercury Marine and industry awards.

Bob, Sr. is (semi) retired today, but his principles and philosophies for doing business flow through every level of the organization. Numerous family members make up some of the management team today, like they have since 1976. There are 8 active family members working at Riverside Marine today.
